Development of fast neutron spectrometer utilizing a single Si(Li) or Ge(Li) surface barrier detector
Description
A telescope for the detection of neutrons in the energy range from a few MeV to about 20 MeV is described. The counter, designed to be operated at an external target geometry, utilized either a single Si(Li) or Ge(Li) surface barrier detector and coneshaped horizontal polyethylene proton converters. By several modifications made on a telescope detector designed, the peak to background ratios were improved to 2:1 in the case of silicon and 6:1 in the case of Germanium detectors. (author)
