Zeeman splitting of spectral lines in different structural elements of sunspot umbra
Description
The fine structure and Zeeman splitting of some spectral lines in sunspot umbra are studied. It is shown that some rapidly developing unipolar sunspots pass the stage when their umbra contains dark and light regions. Both of them consist of the dark and light fine structure elements of different brightness, shape and sizes. Near the centre of the solar disk, the lines FeI lambda 6302.499 A, TiI lambda 6064.626 A, CrI lambda 5781.759 A are found to show the doublet Zeeman splitting in the bright regions of umbra and the triplet Zeeman splitting in the dark ones. In the dark regions the intensity of the π-component of the line FeI lambda 6302.499 A is greater, and that of the line CrI lambda 5781.759 A is smaller, than the intensities of their σ-components. It is shown that the appearance of the strong π-component in the edge zone of the umbra may partly be due to the blurring effect. The magnetic field strength of the dark regions does not depend, and that of the light ones depends, on the temperature parameters of the spectral lines used in the measurements
