Description

X-ray fluorescence analyzer JAX 500 consists of three basic parts, namely, an excitation and detection system, measuring and control electronics, and a central computer with software. A coaxial configuration with a ring-type radionuclide excitation source was selected for the excitation and detection system. 241Am, 55Fe or 109Cd are supplied as sources. A planar Si(Li) detector is used for detection. The measuring and control electronics consists of a spectrometric route, a processing unit, an interface and a power supply. The design of this part uses the JANA modular instrument system. The measured results are evaluated using a DATAS-AT PC compatible with IBM PC XT/AT's. Programs for amplitude analyzer control, ADC and spectra processing are written in TURBO PASCAL 4.0. (E.J.)
