Laser-Produced Plasma as an Effective Source of Multicharged Ions

Description

Properties of expanding laser plasma as a source of highly charged, energetic ions are discussed. A possibility to use sub-nanosecond near-infrared systems as driving lasers of the ion source is highlighted. Experimental data characterising the laser driven ion source performance are presented. A physical interpretation of experimental findings is outlined. (author)
