Combined band-structure and Kondo-collapse calculations of the γ-α transition in cerium

Description

Ab initio linearized muffin-tin orbitals band-structure calculations are used as a starting point for the calculation of the γ-α phase transition of cerium. The Kondo-collapse model with results of the 1/N expansion of the degenerate Anderson Hamiltonian are used. The model gives a satisfactory description of the phase transition using parameters which are consistent with experiment
