Coolant clean-up device in a nuclear reactor
Description
Purpose: To increase the clean-up flow rate with no heat losses and easily conduct processing for wastes resulted from the clean-up for primary coolants. Constitution: A spinel type oxide supply device and a waste tank are connected by way of ON-OFF valves to the coolant inlet pipe of an electromagnetic filter container incorporating ferromagnetic granular and fiberous materials. The electromagnetic filter container is filled with primary coolants and the granular and fiberous materials are magnetized by electromagnetic coils disposed to the outer circumference of the container. Then, spinel type oxide slurries as magnetic materials are supplied from the spinel type oxide supply device possessed by the predetermined amount to the granular and fiberous materials to enter into the clean-up operation. Radioactive nuclides such as Co59, Co60, etc. are taken into the crystal lattices of the spinel oxides under high temperature to remove ionized materials in the primary coolants, while granular corrosion products are cleaned-up by adsorption to ferromagnetic granular and fiberous materials. After clean-up, they are discharged to the waste tank. (Kamimura, M.)
