Linear particle accelerator
Description
A linear particle accelerator wherein its output particle beam intensity may be continuously varied is disclosed. A pulse from a pulse generator is fed to a high voltage pulse generator and a gating circuit simultaneously. The pulse is converted into a high voltage pulse by the H.V. pulse generator to trigger a micro-wave generator and to energize an electron gun. A gating circuit receive the pulse from the pulse generator and a control pulse from a control pulse generator the repetition period of which is different from the former pulse and which generates an output pulse with a width equal to the time between the arrivals of the two pulses. The output pulse is fed to a deflecting electromagnet to control the electron beams emitted from the electron gun. Hence the beam intensity may be easily varied continuously by only changing the repetition period of the control pulses. (Yamaguchi, T.)
