Description
Presoaked seeds of Vicia faba were irradiated with a single dose of X- or gamma-rays. Caffeine (1000 μg/ml) and cycloheximide (1 μg/ml) were applied as a pre- or post-treatment. Estimation of chromosome aberrations 48 and 70 hrs after irradiation did not reveal any significant increase in aberration yields as a result of these treatments. No effect of caffeine and CHM was noted when root tips were irradiated with X-rays and the chromatid-type aberrations scored at 6 successive fixation times up to 24 hrs of recovery. Similarly dose fractionation studies did not reveal the effect of caffeine and CHM on rejoining. (author)
