Description
The methodology for evaluation, acceptance and use of commercially procured items for Nuclear Safety Applications is developed through, (1) research and compilation of existing codes, standards, regulations and guidance; (2) compilation of existing practices and procedures; and (3) development of a generic process for all components and subcomponents. The process provides guidance to the nuclear industry that will, (1) define methodologies for classifying and dedicating commercial items, simple and complex; (2) enable utilities to significantly reduce procurement, engineering and quality assurance cost related to commercial item use; and, (3) minimize the potential for fines, penalties or plant shutdown due to incorrect use or unavailability of spare/replacement items
