Remediation of old ecological burdens in UJV Rez, a. s. - alpha hall
Description
Two research reactors, hot and semi-hot chambers, laboratories, radioactive waste disposal facilities and many other technologies are in operation at the Nuclear Power Plant site. As a result of these activities a significant amount of radioactive wastes, contaminated and irradiated materials, equipment and construction structures for disposal and disposal were created in the Nuclear Research Institute. These old radioactive loads can be characterized as ecological liabilities incurred prior to the privatization of the Nuclear Power Plant. The implementation of the rehabilitation works of the Nuclear Power Plant continued and continues to be successful. The results of regular monitoring confirm that there is no release of radioactive substances into the environment. This work focuses on the elimination of the alpha hall workplace in facility 250 - Radiochemistry. The Alpha Hall has been used to research and develop chemical separations and analyzes for uranium and transuranium elements in the fuel cycle chemistry (especially the separation and determination of plutonium, america, neptunium, curium and uranium). In 2015, this workplace was influenced a combination of age degradation with radiation degradation of one of the plastic packages to leakage of the Am and Pu compound. The contamination was local and within the limits of non-interference levels. The health of workers and the environment were not compromised. However, this event has led to an acceleration of the redevelopment of the workplace, which took place between 2016 and 2017. For this purpose, a working procedure was developed which regulates the way of remedial work, including the solidification of the most risky materials. (authors)
