Uzbekistan: gas and oil reserves development hold key to bright future

Description

An overview of the energy sector in Uzbekistan is presented covering gas and oil reserves development, the potential for increased gas output and export, payment problems encountered with neighbouring countries owning Uzbekistan for imports, and aims to develop export infrastructure. Foreign involvement to develop reserves, enhancement of refining capacity, and the move to self-sufficiency in coal are discussed. Modernisation programmes needed for power generation, and the finance needed for the modernisation programmes are considered. (author)
