Progress of long-time operation and industrial use of negative ion source for particle accelerator
Description
Negative ion source for particle accelerators is currently widely used in from basic science to the medical and industrial fields. J-PARC, one of the large proton accelerator facilities using negative ions, currently supplies negative hydrogen ion beams of about 50 mA to the accelerator for three consecutive months using a high-frequency driven ion source. In addition, it has a beam current feedback system function for keeping the beam current of the ion source constant, and realizes automatic operation that does not require an operator. The negative hydrogen ion source for J-PARC generates high-intensity beams and has sufficient life and stability as a practical machine, greatly contributing to the progress of a wide range of cutting-edge researches conducted at J-PARC. 粒子加速器用の負イオン源は現在,基礎科学分野から医療,産業分野まで幅広く利用されている.負イオンを用いた大型陽子加速器施設のひとつであるJ-PARC では現在,高周波駆動型のイオン源を使用して約50 mA の負水素イオンビームを連続3か月間,加速器に供給している.また,イオン源のビーム電流を一定に保つためのビーム電流フィードバックシステム機能を備え,オペレータを必要としない自動運転を実現している. J-PARC 用負水素イオン源は,大強度ビームを生成するとともに実用機として十分な寿命及び安定性を有しており,J-PARC で行われている幅広い最先端研究の進展に大きく貢献している.(著者)Additional details
