Possible splitting of a phase transition in a 2D XY model

Description
A change in the type of interaction in a 2D XY model can change the nature of a phase transition and can even split it in two. One of the resulting transitions may be an Ising transition, for example. An effect of this type may occur in thin films of superfluid 3He-A
