The reaction between carbon tetrachloride and hydrogen induced by gamma radiation

Description

The products observed are HCl (yield G = 27-250), CHCl3 (G = 1,4-15), C2Cl6 (G = 2,5-4) and C2HCl5, C2Cl4 and CH2Cl2 (in smaller ammounts). G values change with absorbed energy (total dose) (1-100 . 1019 eV), dose rate (1,7 . 1019 to 1,7 . 1018 eV/g.h.) and proportion of reactants. A possible simplified mechanism is presented, as a chain reaction initiated by free radicals, which only explains cuantitatively some results at high doses. It is evident that the primary mechanisms include several types of cocurrent reactions. (author)

Los productos observados irradiando H2 y CCl4 con radiacion gamma del 60Co son HCl (rendimiento: G = 27-250) CHCl3 (G = 1,4-15), C2Cl6 (G = 2,5-4), C2HCl5, C2Cl4 y CH2Cl2 (en menor proporcion). Se observaron variaciones de rendimiento (G) en funcion de la energia absorbida (dosis total) (1-100 . 1019 eV), de la velocidad de dosis (1,7 . 1019 a 1,7 . 1018 eV/g.h.) y de la proporcion de reactivos. Se presenta un posible mecanismo simplificado sobre la base de una reaccion en cadena, iniciada por radicales libres, que solo permite sin embargo explicar cuantitativamente algunos resultados a dosis altas, siendo evidente que el mecanismo primario incluye varios tipos de reacciones concurrentes.
