Magnetization of Hg/sub 1-x/Mn/sub x/Te

  • 1. Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland 20742

Description

The magnetization of Hg/sub 1-x/Mn/sub x/Te for x values from 0.007 to 0.23 has been measured over a temperature range from about 2 to 25 K and in magnetic fields from 3 Oe to 40 kOe. The results for each x value can be well described by a modified Brillouin function with two fitting parameters x-bar and T0. The temperature dependence of the low-field susceptibility is proportional to T/sup( alphax/), where -1< or =α(x)< or =0. Models based on random-exchange interactions predict such a power-law dependence
