How to trigger on pointlike and resolved photon processes with the ZEUS detector

Description

We investigate the possibilities of the ZEUS detector to trigger on pointlike and resolved photoproduction at HERA. First we compare several event generators available for these processes and give a discussion of the results. Since pointlike and resolved photon processes typically have lower transverse energy but higher track multiplicity than hard DIS events we show that the use of the inner tracking chambers of ZEUS in the First Level Trigger is vital for this kind of physics. We present a first level subtrigger for photoproduction and show how it operates in stand-alone mode which was embedded into a trigger algorithm for both hard DIS physics and low-ET physics. Finally we present some results on the possibility of reconstructing xg in Photon-Gluon-Fusion events using the cluster algorithm LUCLUS and a beampipe cut rather than a complete detector simulation.
