Observation of open-charm production in ep collisions at HERA

Description
New results from the ZEUS and H1 experiments on the production of D*(2010) mesons and charm identification via its semi-leptonic decays are reported. The D* production is determined by measuring the reaction chain. The semi-leptonic results are obtained from the inclusive μ samples. Total D* and charm photoproduction (Q2<4 GeV2) cross-section are presented for γp centre-of-mass energies ranging from 115 to 265 GeV. Th results are compared with next-to-leading-order QCD calculations. Other decay modes of D0 (D0 → K- π+ π+ π-), decays of other charmed hadrons and D* production in the deep inelastic region Q2 > 4 GeV2 are also shown
