High temperature filters for water cooled reactors
Description
Purpose: To obtain a filter capable of preventing the fluctuations in the flow of reactor water passing through a column and issue of ion exchange materials, to thereby effectively remove cobalt ions in the reactor water. Constitution: Stainless mesh members are attached at the upper and the lower portions of a tubular column and ion exchangers made of ferrosoferric oxide powders and stainless steel fibers are packed while dispersed between the mesh members. A heat insulating member is attached to the outside of the column and a permanent magnet or electromagnet is further disposed to the outside to retain the ion exchange materials within the column by the magnetic field. Thus, cobalt ions contained in passing primary coolants are adsorbed on the ion exchangers and eliminated and since the ion exchangers are retained within the column by the magnetic field, they do not flow out of the column by the fluctuations in the flow of the primary coolants and the vibrations in the liquid.
