AURA - next generation neutrino detector in the South Pole

Description
The quest for ultra high energy neutrinos requires detectors with very large effective volume, and a long exposure. Due to the attenuation of light in ice and water, and the cost of building and deploying optical detectors in extreme environments, complementary detection techniques such as radio frequency or acoustic waves are useful. The proposed AURA experiment aims to detect the radio frequency emissions resulting from the Askaryan effect of neutrino interactions in the Antarctic ice. Based on the success of the RICE experiment, together with technology developed for IceCube and ANITA detectors, we are on our way towards a 10-100 kilometer array of radio detectors. In the coming austral summer, antenna clusters will be co-deployed with IceCube strings
