Color and chemical composition of elliptical galaxies

Description
Evolution simulation method is used to calculate the energy distribution in the integral spectrum and the colours of elliptical galaxies for two metallicities Z=0.01 and Z=0.04. The comparison of calculated spectra and UBV colours with the observed ones has shown that even high-luminosity E-galaxies have Z < or approximately 0.01. Slopes of colour dependences on metallicity and age are roughly evaluated. Colour dependence on absolute magnitude for elliptical galaxies established by observations has led to the relation ΔlgZ=0.17 ΔMsub(v)
