First experience with MINI-LEWE as an experimental animal in radiobiology

To obtain information on limiting factors in neutron therapy, especially with regard to the tolerance dose for normal tissues, preclinical radiobiological experiments were performed in MINI-LEWE, a new miniature pig breeded in the GDR. Irradiation of the skin with neutrons and X-rays showed that single irradiation with about 26 Gy X-rays is tolerated inasmuch the induced skin damage healed up within 4 months; the tolerable dose of a single neutron irradiation seems to be near 10 Gy
