Destruction of insulators in superconducting magnetic systems for use in thermonuclear reactors due to electrostatic charge under gamma and electron irradiation

  • 1. Inst. of Nuclear Physics, Moscow State Univ. (Russia)

Description

Composite and ceramic materials, which are candidates for use as insulators in superconducting magnetic systems for thermonuclear reactors, were tested under irradiation by electrons at 77 K. Accumulation of space charge was observed. Dielectric breakdown took place in the irradiated samples while increasing the temperature from 77 K to the room temperature. (orig.)
