True coincidence correction for high volume gamma-ray spectrometry detectors

Description

With the latest developments in gamma-ray spectrometry, crystal sizes are larger than 10 years ago. Efficiency detections have increased by the use of these crystals as well as measurement at the end cap of the detector. True coincidence summing effects play an important role in HP Ge spectrometry in this configuration. We established correction factors for large detectors (>200 cm3) for artificial and natural radionuclides (60Co, 110Agm, 134Cs, 208Tl, 212,214Bi, 228Ac) measured in environmental samples. These factors are in the range of 3 to 65% according to the radionuclide and the measurement container used. (authors)
