Savannah River waste vitrification program

Description

The principal objective of the Savannah River vitrification development program is to provide the technical data needed for the design of the full-scale plant-configured system by the expected authorization date for the Savannah River Defense Waste Processing Facility, October 1981. The vitrification development program can be divided into three basic areas: 1. small-scale melter and model studies at Savannah River Laboratory (SRL); 2. large-scale tests in existing equipment at Battelle-Pacific Northwest Laboratories; and 3. full-scale developmental tests at SRL. 5 refs
