φ-enhancement in nuclear collisions

Description

The observed enhancement of the φ/(ρ0+ω) ratio in relativistic heavy ion collisions at CERN is explained as absorption of ρ and ω's in the hadronic matter created in the collisions. Production of φ vector mesons in rescattering processes is unlikely and we suggest the enhancement of the φ to continuum ratio is an artifact of the pt cutoff applied to the data. (orig.)
