Quadrupole lens for sectional microtron

Description
A continuous-action sectional microtron with 25 orbits for an energy of ∼ 100 MeV and a current on the order of 100 μ A is being developed at the Scientific-Research Institute of Nuclear Physics of Moscow State University. One of the important advantages of a sectional over a conventional microtron is the possibility of installation of focusing elements (lenses) in individual orbits. A quadrupole lens with flat poles and width-to-total-aperture ratio of 1.7 is described. The magnetic field of the lens has a nonlinearity of not over 1% within a working aperture with a diameter of 14 mm. The maximum field gradient of the lens is 300 G/cm
