Localization technique and positioning methodology in afterloading therapy

  • 1. Bezirkskrankenhaus, Schwerin (German Democratic Republic)

Description

A special combination consisting of X-ray multiplier and a gynecological table was constructed for use in afterloading therapy. Because of the constant magnification of radiographs topometric examinations became easier. Examining the displacement of points of interest when the patient is restored from a lithotomic position into a position with stretched legs, the conclusion was drawn that from the point of view of treatment planning afterloading irradiation should be done with stretched legs like in teletherapy. Only in such a way it is possible to calculate simultaneously dose distributions of teletherapy as well as of afterloading therapy. (author)
