The IPN time-of-flight mass spectrometry with desorption multi-probes. Tests of a new probe of molecular ions

Description

A new design of a molecular ion source has been installed on one of the IPN time-of-flight mass spectrometers. This source is based on an idea developed at IPN ten years ago. The molecular ions are produced by electric field effects and focused on a target where they generate simultaneously electron and negative ions. TOF mass spectra are recorded in a shorter time than with a more conventional method as for instance 252Cf. Applications could be derived. (authors)
