The iron-niobium phase diagram

Description

This work presents an experimental study of the binary Fe-Nb phase diagram, using techniques al optical metallography, X-ray diffraction. Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and electron microprobe. Our results re-define the existence range for the phases Fe2Nb and Fe21Nb19, point out the peritectic nature of the latter phase, and indicate the metastability of the Fe2Nb3 phase and the non-existence of a high-temperature phase with stoichiometry Fe11Nb89 in this system. Abstract (German)

Die experimentelle Untersuchung des binaeren Systems Fe-Nb ergibt eine Neudefinierung des Existenzbereichs der Phasen Fe2Nb und Fe21Nb19. Die Phase Fe21Nb19 wird in einer peritektischen Reaktion gebildet. Die Phase Fe2Nb3 besitzt offenbar metastabilen Charakter. Die Existenz der anderweitig berichteten Hochtemperaturphase Fe11Nb89 konnte nicht nachgewiesen werden. (orig.)
