Shielding for cylindrical sources

Description

Guidelines are presented to shielding cask designers in the use of the computer codes ANISN and SDC for a cylindrical radiation source, and data are given on the effectiveness of cylindrical shields (customary for casks) compared with flat slab shields (assumed in SDC and in usual manual calculations). For illustration, calculations with ANISN and SDC were made for a homogeneous cylindrical source of 40 cm radius. Also included are examples of the effectiveness of water and uranium for neutron shielding
