Unusual plain film appearance of extrapleural hematoma

Description

Two cases of extrapleural hematoma, proven during autopsy, are presented. Plain chest films did not demonstrate the typical signs of an extrapleural mass lesion. The roentgenologic differential diagnosis of a free or partially encapsulated pleural effusion, as well as the pathogenesis of extrapleural hematoma is discussed. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Zwei Faelle von autoptisch bestaetigten, ausgedehnten extrapleuralen Haematomen werden vorgestellt, bei welchen im Thoraxroentgen die aus der Literatur bekannten Zeichen fuer extrapleurale Raumforderungen nicht nachweisbar waren. Die roentgenologische Abgrenzung gegenueber einem freien oder teilweise verschwarteten Pleuraerguss und die Pathogenese des Krankheitsbildes - ausgehend von der Anatomie der Thoraxwand - werden diskutiert.
