IHEP drift tube prototype for ATLAS

  • 1. Institute for High Energy Physics (IHEP), Protvino (Russian Federation)

Description

A drift chamber prototype for the muon system of the ATLAS detector has been prepared and tested with a muon beam at CERN. The mechanical accuracy for the sense wire positions was measured with X-ray tomography (the rms is better than 33 μm). An Ar-CO2-N2-CF4 gas mixture (95%-2%-2%-1%) at an absolute pressure of 3 atm was used. Spatial resolutions σ=80 μm (Us = 3400 V) and σ=60 μm (Us = 3500 V) were achieved. (orig.)
