Pressure-suppression system of power units with the KBMK-1000 reactor

Description

Pressure-supress1on system of the Smolensk, Chernobylsk-2 and Kursk-2 power un1ts with the RBMK reactor is described. The system consists of leak-tight chambers with reactor pipelines and condensation pool placed in the lower part of the reactor building. The chamber system specific feature is a different value of the maximum permissible pressure (in accordance with strength conditions): 0.35 MPa for the circulating pumps chambers and 0.18 MPa for the lower feed pipework chambers. One more system feature is the accidential heat removal not only using the pool cooling pump-heat exchanger plant, but surface condensers as well. The mockup of 1:70 scale has been constructed to study the pressure-suppression system operation. The procedure of test preparation and the pressure-suppression mockup description are given. The test facility is usually charged with (9-11)x103 kg of water for a single test at 270-280 deg C and up to 7.0 MPa. For the time being several test runs have been carried out
