Alternative fuel vehicles major polluters in B.C

Poor emissions performance by many cars in British Columbia that have been converted to run on alternate fuels, such as propane and natural gas, was reported. Faulty after-market installation has been cited as the principal culprit. To ensure consistent installation of standardized alternative fuel kits on B.C. cars a new program of registration has been introduced by the Automotive Repair Association of B. C.. Each conversion is registered by the Provincial Government, confirmed by a numbered window decal. This is intended to signal to alternative fuel suppliers which cars are equipped with certified conversion kits, and to encourage them to serve only those vehicles. Skepticism has been expressed about the likely success of the program since it is voluntary, and as it now stands, it depends entirely on the cooperation of fuel suppliers for its success
