Optical study of stresses in the column glasses of the IPNE FN Van de Graaff tandem accelerator

Description

We report on exhaustive optical study of the stresses in the glass blocks of the uncompressed column of the IPNE FN Van de Graaff tandem accelerator. High residual stress values were found. Information on the method employed to measure the stresses is also given. (orig.)
