Relative response of head TLD badge to mean photon energy and angle of incidence in determination of Hp(3) quantity
- 1. Radiological Physics and Advisory Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)
Description
The absorbed dose in the eye lens, which is the radiation protection quantity of interest, is related to the energy deposition in eye lens, where eye is located in the anterior part of head. The fore head position is closest to eye. Exposure of head can also give information to eye lens dose which is directly related to Hp(3) quantity. The ICRU recommendations introduced the personal dose equivalent Hp(d) for individual monitoring at three depths. It is in general defined as the dose equivalent in soft tissue at appropriate depth (mm) below a specified point on the body. Presently there has been increased concern about the dose estimation at 3 mm depth in view of recent ICRP recommendations. The head TLD badge is used when a significant dose to the eye lens is expected. At present doses are evaluated using the same algorithm as are used for the chest TLD badges, it is anticipated that the evaluated doses will not underestimate Hp(3). However to confirm the same a detailed study is carried out to determine the response (in terms of whole body dose) of head TLD badge at various photon energies and angle of incidence
