Negative ion losses in magnetically insulated vacuum gaps

Description
Negative ion losses have been observed in a long, self-magnetically insulated transmission line after the electrons are insulated. Time of flight spectra are consistent with H-, H2-, 02-, C2-, and heavier molecular ions with energies corresponding to the full anode-cathode potential difference. The negative ion current density J/sub i/ is a sensitive function of the conditions under which the cathode plasma is produced
