Heat transfer and penetration from a heated pool to a substrate
Description
The melting of a substrate by a heated pool is studied experimentally in two different situations. In the first case, the heated pool is carbon tetrachloride (CCl/sub 4/) or diiodomethane (CH/sub 2/I/sub 2/) and the substrate is benzene. In the second case, a heated pool of ethylene glycol, glycerol, or mercury is placed over a slab of dry ice. An application of the two situations to a system of molten fuel over concrete or steel is discussed. 12 refs
