Simulation of broadened hydrogen lines for the spectroscopic diagnostic of dense plasmas

Description

The temperature and density of an hydrogen plasma can be assessed by analysing its emission spectrum. This diagnostic relies on a broadened spectrum dominated by the Stark effect, it means by the influence of the electric field generated by the other electrons and ions of the plasma. The calculation of the emission spectrum of a plasma undergoing the Stark effect is complex and long. A simplified model has been developed, it allows a quick simulation of the Stark effect. This model considers the ions as quasi immobile during emission and electrons are dealt with in the approximation of fast collisions. This model will be developed and adapted for more complex systems than hydrogen. (A.C.)
