Description
It is shown that compact subspaces of vacuum configurations of d = 11 supergravity can be represented in the form of a principal fiber bundle M7 = P(M6,S1) with base space corresponding to the 6-dimensional compact subspace of N = 2, d = 10 supergravity and with a particular choice of connection in the bundle. However, despite this correspondence between the vacuum configurations of the two theories, in d = 10 only the configurations corresponding to the compact subspaces M6 = T6, SU(4)/U(3), K3 x T2, SU(3)/(U(1) x U'(1)), and Sp(4)/(Sp(2) x U(1)) permit preservation of N = 8, 6, 4, and 1 supersymmetries in the d = 4 theory
