Separation of hafnium and zirconium by ionic exchange. Influence of the process conditions on the efficiency of separation in sulphate medium

Description
The efficiency of the separation of Zr(4) and Hf(4) by ionic exchange had been compared as function of the variable molar ratio SO42- : Zr(4) + Hf(4), from which the last both being in complex forms. The cation exchanger Wofatit KPS and the solutions containing sulphate complexes of zirconium and hafnium with addition of 0,5 - 1 M nitric acid have been used. The most advantageous results have been obtained for the solutions having the molar ratio SO42- : Zr(4) + Hf(4) = 9.1. (author)
