Growth of harmonic perturbations of an electron shell orbiting a postively-charged wire (orbitron)

Description

The negative-mass instability of a cylindrical shell of electrons orbiting a positively-charged wire was studied. The harmonics of the orbital frequency are found to grow faster than the fundamental, with a growth constant proportional to the square root of the harmonic number
