Experimental potentialities of the BOR-60 channels for instrumented tests of materials

Description

Distributions of currents and neutron spectra in height in vertical experimental channels (VEC) of the BOR-60 reactor have been studied by the method of activation detectors; corresponding approximating dependences have been found for their description. The measured value of a total neutron current in VEC was 3.8x1013 neutr. (cm2xs), mean neutron energy - 40 keV. Rates of exposure and absorbed doses of gamma radiation in VEC amount to 1.7x103 r/s and 2x103 rad/s, correspondingly; radiative energy release is 0.02 W/g. Temperature conditions in VEC have been investigated. It is found, that temperature conditions in VEC are determined by energy absorption of penetrating reactor radiations in the materials of side biological shielding, as well as by profiling of air consumption cooling the shield, and do not depend on sodium temperature in the reactor. Minimum temperature of experimental specimens of structural materials, being irradiated in VEC is 290-310 deg C. Investigations into disturbance of initial radiation conditions in the channels owing to boron absorbers have shown, that they effect considerably not only on proper, but also on adjacent channels
