Description
A brief editorial reviews the research on the possible causes of childhood leukaemia in the neighbourhood of Seascale and the British Nuclear Fuels Sellafield plant. It is concluded that the combination of the Greaves hypothesis, viz. that the immune response to infections plays a critical role in the development of leukaemia, the epidemiological incidence of Kisslen, viz. that higher levels of infection encouraged by mixing of populations lead to an increase in the incidence of childhood leukaemia, and finally the sewage situation points to the most probable cause as being of an infective origin.
