M-shell x-ray production by C and N ions
Description
M-shell x-ray production cross sections for thin targets of Os, Ir, Au and Bi have been measured for carbon and nitrogen ions of energies 0.4-2.0 MeV/amu. The present data and the results reported by other authors were compared with the predictions of semiclassical approximation (SCA) with the hyperbolic trajectories and the relativistic hydrogenic wave-functions. The SCA calculations were performed both for the open-quotes united atomclose quotes (UA) and open-quotes separated atomclose quotes (SA) limits. These extreme approaches do not satisfactory describe the experimental data, being systematically smaller. Possible influence of wave-function effect is discussed by comparing with the SCA calculations with Dirac-Hartree-Fock wave functions
