Interpretation of Absolute Measurements of Radioactive Source Strength by the 4 Π Beta-Gamma-Coincidence Method

  • 1. Physical Laboratory I, Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen (Denmark)

Description

The present report deals with the interpretation of absolute measurements of radioactive source strength by the 4 Π beta-gamma-coincidence method. After a description of the statistical behaviour of a generalized multi-scaler instrument, the special case of the beta-gamma-coincidence method is evaluated. The theory is demonstrated by the measurement of Au198 in gold foils, where the final accuracy is shown to be between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent. Special attention is given to the count-rate-dependent corrections, which are here measured directly by means of the substitution method. (author)
