Categorization Criteria for Remediation of Radiation and Chemically Contaminated Areas to the Socially Acceptable Level. Agenda item 3 (Presentation in English)
Description
The paper Categorisation Criteria for Remediation of Radiation and Chemically-Contaminated Areas to Socially Acceptable Level by I. Abalkina from the Russian Academy of Science. The paper described two different approaches in categorisation of chemically and radiation-contaminated areas. It explained the categorisation of radiation-contaminated territories based on potential threat to personnel, public and environment. Assessment criteria for radiation-contaminated sites from the standpoint of risk analysis were described. Categorisation of radiation-contaminated sites and facilities should to be based on the dose approach to be defined by legislation that was being developed in Russia. Categorisation should also consider the goals for use of decommissioned sites and facilities.
