Dense ceramics masses from clays containing hydromica minerals
Description
Applicability of three varieties of clay from separate districts of Latvia (Kurzeme - Quaternary deposits of Usma and Lazha, Latgale - Devonian deposits of Kuprava) for preparation of dense ceramics (water absorption less than 2%) has been demonstrated. Nepheline to silicate (Ca,Fe)SiO3, have been used as additives. Sintering of mass starts at 850-860 deg C, bending strength being 45-58 MPa. Under above conditions the structure is formed in which crystalline phases - diopside, gehlenite, anorthite, quartz and cordierite - are dominating. (author)
