Tailings transport and deposition downstream of an abandoned uranium mill, Moline, N.T
- 1. Alligator Rivers Region Research Institute, Jabiru (Australia)
- 2. Conservation Commission of the Northern Territory, Jabiru (Australia)
Description
The derelict mill at Moline, near Pine Creek, produced 246,000 tonnes of uranium and other metalliferous tailings between 1959 and its closure in 1972. During that period tailings were contained by earthen bunds which later failed, resulting in the erosion and transport of tailings by Tailings and Eureka creeks. The radioactivity of the tailings proved a convenient means of tracing deposition patterns of tailings downstream
