Experimental limits on monopole catalysis of nucleon decay

Creators

Description

This chapter reports on five experiments which searched for and found no terrestrial evidence of monopole catalysis of nucleon decay (MCND) within a combined live time of over 870 days. The cross section and velocity dependent limits on the monopole flux from these experiments encompass significantly wider velocity range and are considerably lower than, or comparable to, experiments which are sensitive to the electromagnetic interactions of magnetic monopoles with matter. Topics considered include experimental aspects and considerations for MCND, catalysis cross sections and interaction lengths, velocity-dependent suppression/enhancement factors for MCND, monopole catalysis event rate for terrestrial experiments, experimental signatures of monopole catalysis of nucleon decay, and the kinematics of monopole catalysis of nucleon decay
